FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What should I wear?
A: Try to stick with solid colors. In general patterns and prints are somewhat distracting. Textured fabric is great, though. Black and white are always good choices. V-necks are usually attractive, and turtlenecks usually don’t look as good. Really, try to choose things that you think you look good in, and bring several options. We’ll try things and see what works.
Q: What about hair and makeup?
A: If you’re a woman, my associate, Stephanie, knows exactly how to make you look great for your headshot, and I strongly recommend that you use her, but feel free to do your own. If you’re a man, I really think your headshots will look best with no makeup, but I also am skilled in some techniques to bring out your best features, and I would be happy to help you with that.
Q: Can I bring music?
A: Of course! Bring anything you like, and when we’re in the studio, we’ll crank it up. I can plug in your iPod, or any other device with standard audio-out plug. Or even bring a couple of CDs. We can also use my music, but I can’t guarantee you’ll like my taste!
Q: Will you have anything for me to eat or drink?
A: I will have bottled water for you. If you would like anything else, please feel free to bring it with you.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: You may cancel your sitting anytime until 48 hours before, and I will refund your $100 deposit. If you have to cancel within 48 hours of your appointment time, I would be happy to reschedule you and apply your deposit to the new appointment time.
Q: Will you photograph me at my favorite location?
A: Sure, if I can schedule it, but I will have to charge more to cover my time and travel. Please contact me to talk about this.
Q: Do you do headshots for business people, authors, etc? What about model shots or album artwork?
A: I do headshots of all types, please just call me and we’ll talk about what you need. I don’t do model shots, although that may change if I get a larger studio. And I would love to talk about photographing your band or group, as long as you are OK with outdoor looks, or can provide a location. My studio is just big enough for headshot photography.
Q: Do you do other types of photography?
A: Yes, I do event and product photography as well, please contact me if you have a project you’d like to discuss.
Q: How many shots will I have to choose from?
A: Unlike some headshot photographers, I don’t just shoot absolutely everything that happens. Some things are just better than others, and I wait until you look great before releasing the shutter. But, OK, as an average you might end up with between 75 and 150 shots to choose from.
Q: What if I can’t find one I like?
A: Well, I’d be happy to offer some opinions on which shots make you look best, but if you’re absolutely certain that you are not satisfied with any of the shots, I will offer a re-shoot for an additional fee of $150 (not including makeup). We will sit down and discuss what we can do differently the second time to get something better.
